A Lost Paradise in Santiago de Compostela

paraiso perdido

It’s one of the most impressive cities of Spain, not big as Barcelona or Madrid but with a solemn structure due to the presence of the Cathedral and of the medieval historical centre. Santiago de Compostela is one my favorite destination. Whenever I can, I go to Galicia and stop in the capital. Apart of the food and the free tapas, there is another good reason to go there.

The reason’s name is Paraíso Perdido, the Lost Paradise, a coffee-bar when you can spend a lovely time drinking a coffee, a beer or a gin-tonic. The bar is really fabulous: it’s all caved in the stone and has three rooms, apart the entrance. The aesthetic is  suggestive as the whole place is made of stone and wood and it seems to stay in a place stuck somewhere in the past. To get into the bar you have to go down a narrow stone stairway; curious are the bathrooms, too.

The owners are very kind and the service excellent. Also the prices are really affordable and the quality of their coffees (there are many different kind of coffee you can choose depending of your taste), of the hot chocolate and the wide selection of alcoholic drinks make this place an experience you can’t avoid if you stay in Santiago de Compostela.

The bar is located in  San Paio de Antealtares, s/n, just behind the Cathedral.
It’s quite easy to find, but if you have problems to get to the place, just ask. It’s a well-known historical bar of the city and everyone knows where it is.
